Christmas Church
Description:
The Orthodox Church of the Nativity of Christ is mentioned in the XVIII century as the main cult building of the craft district of ancient Galich (in 1593 the temple was officially assigned to the pottery shop). During the XVI-XVII centuries the church was repeatedly destroyed by the Tatars, after which it was reconstructed and acquired its current appearance. Then a wooden carved iconostasis was made. In the beginning of the XX century. was carried out restoration with the participation of father Nikolai Vinnytsky - a famous Muscofile, who was repressed by the Austrian authorities. There is a monument to him in front of the temple. In recent years, a bell tower has been erected nearby. Near the open-air church, a model of ancient Galich was built.
