Description:
Klochkovskaya Street is one of the main transport highways of Kharkiv. It starts from Proletarskaya Square, extends to the District Road, where it passes into the T-2103 highway towards the Russian-Ukrainian border, near Cossack Lopani. Klochkovskaya street from south to north crosses the Dzerzhinsky district. Its length is 8 kilometers, and the width of the carriageway varies from 12 to 30 meters.
In 1824, fish shops opened on Klochkovskaya Street, in 1909 a tram line was held here. Large planning work on the development of the street began in 1924. On the site of a wasteland cut by a deep ravine, the Klochkovsky Congress was arranged. Part of the street, which is adjacent to the Pokrovsky Cathedral, for a long time remained undeveloped due to the swamp. Only from the middle of the XIX century there were houses.
In 1956, a magnificent cascade staircase was built on the slope of the Shevchenko Garden. In 1959, the roadway was expanded. Currently, the main local attractions include the Small Cascade, the Book and Flea Market, the Pine Hill, the Shevchenko City Garden, the Alexis Temple and the Roman Catholic Church.
