Moscow Avenue
Moscow Prosp., Kharkiv, Kharkiv region, Ukraine
Description:
Moskovsky Prospekt is the longest street in Kharkiv, the length of which is about 8 kilometers. It starts from Constitution Square and ends after crossing the highway. Many large enterprises were built along the street, for which in Soviet times it was often called the “alley of giants”.
Initially, the street was a road to Moscow, which arose during the construction of the Kharkiv fortress. It started from the Moscow Tower and went to the wooden bridge over the Kharkiv River. In 1837, large-scale reconstruction of the street began. As a result, from Nikolaevskaya Square to the bridge, it was paved with a cobblestone, and stone sidewalks were laid on both sides.
On Moscow Avenue there are many architectural sights. These are the Tomb of the Hero of the Civil War, the Monument of G. K. Ordzhonikidze, the Kharkov Bridge, the Korsikovsky overpass, the Saltov overpass, the Ascension Church, the Mikhailovsky Church and the Temple of the Holy Spirit.
