prosp. Gagarina, Kharkiv, Kharkiv region, Ukraine

Description:

Gagarin Avenue is the main transport highway of Kharkiv, which connects the city center with the airport. The street was formed at the end of the XVII century and was called Zmievskaya. At the beginning of the XIX century, Gagarin Avenue reached the present Molchanovsky Lane and ended with a stone house with a huge orchard. In the 1860s, the street continued to be built up and reached Molochnoy Street. In 1876, Gagarin Avenue was paved and became part of the highway to Zmiev. In the pre-revolutionary period, the street was built up very slowly.

In Soviet times, Gagarin Prospect became the concentration of a number of industrial enterprises - there were jewelry and stocking factories, the Orgtechnics plant and the road machinery plant. On the basis of former slaughterhouses created a meat processing plant. In 1929-1930 years on the southern outskirts of Kharkov, near Zmievskaya street, built the airport "Basic".

Currently, the sights of Gagarin Avenue include the Monument to the Cog, the Yuri Gagarin Monument in a suit, Kharkiv-Levada Station, the Central Bus Station Building and the Flower Clock.
