Barabashov Market

Amur Street, Kharkiv, Kharkiv region, Ukraine, 61000

Description:

An interesting attraction of Kharkov is the Barabashov market (or in the people "Barabashka"). Barabashovo is the largest industrial and clothing market not only in Ukraine, but also in Eastern Europe. And “Drumabashka” is among the twenty largest markets in the world, where it occupies the 14th position.

Located on Saltovka, between the metro stations "Academician Pavlova" and "Academician Barabashov". From the last station came the name. Thus, the market has nothing to do with the famous Kharkiv astronomer Nikolai Pavlovich Barabashov.

The market got its name from the Kharkiv metro station named after Akademik Barabashov. Initially, the market had a long official name "Battle market on the avenue of the 50th anniversary of the Komsomol at the metro station named after Akademika.Barabashov", which was soon simplified to the usual now "Barabashovo". The largest market appeared in 1995 on the site of a small spontaneous bazaar and since then, constantly expanding, has reached a colossal area of 75 hectares.

"Barabashovo" is not a spontaneous bargaining. This is a well-coordinated mechanism, with all the necessary infrastructure. Most of the territory is a shopping center of the same name, owned by the AVEK and Co. concern. There are 8 trading platforms on the market (depending on product specifics), wholesale and retail trade operate separately. On the territory of "Barabashovo" there are parking lots, cafes, bank branches, pharmacies, medical center. The market has its own website and weekly newspaper.
