About the company:

Historical Museum in Kharkiv was founded initially as the Museum of Sloboda Ukraine named after G.Skovoroda in 1920. In Soviet times, the museum was located in the Bishops’ House of the Pokrovsky Monastery and in the building of the Girardov Manufactory. It was only in the early 1930s that the Museum of Sloboda Ukraine was renamed the Historical Museum. At the same time, its structure has changed significantly. In the early 1940s, the Kharkiv Historical Museum became one of the largest in Ukraine. During the Great Patriotic War, the museum was partially destroyed and later restored.

Since the early 1990s, the Historical Museum is located in the building of a former pawnshop, built in 1908 by the architect B. Kornienko. The building is recognized as an architectural monument and is an element of the architectural ensemble of the University and University Hill streets.

The modern Historical Museum is divided into 4 departments - primitive society, feudal, capitalist and Soviet times.
