Letichev Castle (Dominican Monastery)

Description:

Letichev Castle (Dominican Monastery)

Letichev

The elegant round jagged tower, which rises above the Vinnitsa-Khmelnytsky highway, is a fragment of the Letichevsky Castle, built in the XVI century by Kamenetsk Starosta Y. Pototsky at the request of the Polish king. Earlier in Letichev there was a wooden fortress, which was repeatedly burned by the Tatars. After 1606. Pototsky from Protestantism converted to Catholicism, the castle was placed at the disposal of Dominican monks. They brought with them from the Vatican the icon of the Mother of God (a copy of the icon from the Roman Cathedral of St. Peter) and began the reconstruction of the castle as a monastery.
