The Transfiguration Monastery in Golovchintsi

Description:

Holy Transfiguration Women's Monastery in Golovchintsi

- one of the oldest Orthodox monasteries of Podolia. The monastery was founded in 1540 by Hetman N. Senyavsky. During the Commonwealth, it was settled by Basilians, in 1795 returned to the Orthodox. For the first time the monastery was closed in 1923, a shelter for street children was organized on the territory.

During the Second World War, the monastery was briefly resumed, but soon it was closed again. Until 1996, the buildings belonged to a children's boarding school. Now the monastery is being revived: the monastery temple and residential building have been reconstructed, a new bell tower has been erected, the abbot’s building has been rebuilt, an almshouse and a pilgrimage hotel have been equipped. On the territory there is a miraculous Onufrievsky spring, in the temple there is a miraculous image of Prp. Onuphry the Great.
