Armenian Church
Description:
A tall building with two towers in the style of mature Baroque near the market square was built in the XVIII century on the site of a wooden church in honor of the miraculous icon of the Virgin (crowned in 1937, now located in Poland). The construction began after the Armenian community of the city received the right to self-government. Two restorations in the XIX and XX centuries significantly changed the appearance of the building. In the interior design, a wooden sculpture was used, apparently, the work of the master M. Poleevsky. On the walls are frescoes made by J. Soletsky. The interiors were completely preserved in Soviet times due to the fact that it housed a museum of the history of religion and atheism. Now it is the Holy Protection Cathedral of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church.
