The bridge is laid across a narrow isthmus between the two banks and connects the Old Town with the fortress.

Description:

The castle bridge connects the city with the fortress and is a landmark of both urban and national importance. The bridge is included in the Book of Records of Ukraine as the oldest in the country. According to the hypothesis, the bridge was built by the Romans in the II century and it was built on the Trajan column in Rome.

The existence of the bridge was documented in 1494. In the XVII century, during the reign of the Turks, the bridge was rebuilt, received the form of a solid wall and was also called the Turkish Bridge. Today, the bridge is a solid wall, more like a dam. The width of the bridge is 7 meters at the top and 12.8 at the foot. The maximum height of the bridge reaches 28 meters. On the sides there are stairs that can go down to the river. Together with the fortress, the bridge creates an architectural ensemble of the historical part of the city.
