Waterfall "Breakthrough"
Yaremche, Ivano-Frankivsk region, Ukraine
Description:
Proboy waterfall is located on the southern outskirts of the Ukrainian city of Yaremche, in the valley of the Prut River. It is one of the most famous Carpathian waterfalls.
The waterfall is a cascade of rapids, which ends with a jet about eight meters high. Above it is built a bridge from which you can admire the waterfall near.
There is a version that more than a century ago the waterfall was three times higher. But in preparing the riverbed for the rafting of the forest, explosives were used, the channel deepened, and the stream of the waterfall shortened.
Near the waterfall are the so-called Gothic folds. It is believed that they are more than 60 million years old and they were formed during the movement of rocks during the formation of the Carpathian ridges.
Above the waterfall you can see the rocks of Dovbush. According to folk legends, their name is associated with the name of the leader of the peasant rebels Oleksa Dovbush, who for some time was hiding in them.
