Near and Far Caves
Entrance to the nearby caves: 25K41, Lavra Street, Kiev, Kiev, Ukraine
Description:
About a thousand years ago, the priest Hilarion came to the hill, where today there are distant caves, and dug a cave in the ground for solitary prayers. Later, at the beginning of the XI century, Anthony, the future founder of the Pechersk Monastery, settled in it.
Antony, who loves solitude, has many followers, which forced him to go to a nearby hill and dig a new cave. But soon the monks settled there. Thus, two complexes of caves were formed. It is no exaggeration to say that over time, real underground cities have formed here.
Entrance to the far and near caves is free for everyone, and you can visit them both independently and together with the guide as part of the excursion group. At the end of the inspection of the caves, you can visit the springs located in the lower territory, which are considered life-giving.
