Description:

The Church of the Icon of the Mother of God “Joy of All Who Sorrow” is a temple located in the Holy Dormition Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, in Kiev – the capital of Ukraine. This temple, named in honor of the icon of the Mother of God called “All who mourn Joy”, was restored and consecrated in 2009 by His Beatitude Metropolitan of Kiev and All Ukraine Vladimir. After that, Bishop Panteleimon held the first Divine Liturgy.

The history of this temple is very long, it began in 1849-1852. Then a pilgrimage hospital at the monastery was built. Thirteen years later, a two-storey extension was completed to the hospital with the temple of the icon “All Who Sorrow Joy”. A couple of years later, in 1868, an iconostasis was installed in the temple.

With the advent of Soviet power, this temple, like most churches at that time, lost its decoration. And only then, after more than a decade, in 2003, the Temple of the icon “Joy of All Who Sorrow” was returned to the possession of the monastery. On November 6, 2007, Archbishop Pavel, who is the viceroy of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, on the feast of the icon “All those who mourn Joy” lighted the dome of this temple.
