Description:

Contract Square - one of the oldest squares in Kiev, appeared in the times of Kievan Rus. After the destruction of the Upper city from the Mongol-Tatar attacks, it remained the center of the city until the XIX century.

It was called “Kontraktova” because many merchants of Kiev signed contracts on this square, since it was located near the main source of trade supplies – the Kiev port.

On the square there is a living yard, a well-fountain "Samson", a monument to G.S.Skovoroda (1976), the Kiev Mohyla Academy, a monument to the hetaman of the Zaporizhya army Peter Konashevich Sagaidachny.
