Mikhailovsky Square

between the streets of Desyatinnaya, Three-Svyattelskaya, Mikhailovskaya, Big Zhytomyr and Vladimir lane.

Description:

Mikhailovsky Square, one of the oldest places in Kiev, has existed since the XII century. First of all, this is the platform in front of the Mikhailovsky Cathedral, dedicated to the heavenly patron of Kiev - Archangel Michael. It is believed that it was from this cathedral in Russia that the tradition of temples with a gilded top went. After the explosion under Soviet rule, the building was restored in its original form.

On the square there is a monument to Princess Olga. Also, the composition includes the figures of the Apostle Andrew the Primordial and the holy enlighteners Cyril and Methodius. Near the monument, you can often see newlyweds, among whom it has become a tradition to bring a bouquet here.

Near the Mikhailovsky Monastery there is also a monument to the victims of the Holodomor - a cross with a crucified figure of a woman inside.

Nearby there is a beautiful place for walks - the park "Vladimir Hill".

Together with Sofievskaya, Mikhailovsky Square is a kind of historical “point of reference”. This place cannot be missed when visiting Kiev.
