On the Maidan in Kiev there is a monument to the mythical cossack Mamai, who was born on Khortytsia in 1509. Kozak Mamai - a symbol of spiritual and dune (in the modern sense - political) will and freedom - is always depicted with a bandura in his hands, in the "Eastern" pose. In the Turkic "mamay" - a person without a name - is not subject to evil forces.
