Monument to Nikolai Yakovchenko in Kiev
p. Ivana Franko, 5, Kiev, Ukraine
Description:
This monument was erected in Kiev in honor of the famous Soviet comedy actor of cinema and theater Nikolai Yakovchenko, who is known as Prokop Serko (“For two rabbits”), Spirid (“Viy”), Patsyuk (“Evenings at a farm near Dikanka”).
The monument was erected in 2000, on the hundredth anniversary of the birth of the great actor. Now the monument is in front of the Ivan Franko Theatre.
Bronze figure Yakovchenko is located in a sitting position on the bench. Next to Nikolai Fedorovich sits his pet - dachshund Fan-Fan. The sculptor of the monument was Vladimir Chepelik. Yakovchenko’s knee and back of his dog are cleaned to shine, because many tourists sit either on the actor’s knee or on the dog’s back to capture them on film.
Exactly the same monument of Chepelik’s work, dedicated to Yakovchenko, was installed in Priluki in 2008.
