Monument to Afghan soldiers
ooh Lavra, 23-27, Kiev, Ukraine
Description:
In Kiev, the monument to Afghan soldiers appeared before it was officially opened in 1999. Its authors are Nikolai Kislyi and Nikolai Oleynik.
To the sculptural group of three figures leads a mournful, paved path, which is there, then here coarsely hewn granite stones. On the pedestal are carved lines of a poem by S. Govorukhin. The monument is surrounded by granite slabs on which the names of the dead are carved. There are more than three thousand.
The sculptural group is based on a real photograph. Perhaps that is why the monument leaves a very realistic and strong impression.
