Old-Kiev Mountain

Starokievskaya mountain is the historical center of the city, the place where the history of Kiev began. It was here, according to legend, began to reign Kyi, the founder of the city. There is a memorial stone with the words “From here appeared the Russian land”.

The construction of the mountain is divided into several periods. The first period "City of Kiev" is an ancient fortified settlement, occupying an area of about 2 hectares, surrounded by ramparts and was previously built up with wooden structures.

"City of Vladimir" refers to the X century, in this period began the construction of stone structures, which remained the foundations. During the time of Yaroslav the Wise, the territory increases, the mountain becomes a place of worship and sacrifice to pagan gods.

Later, the area began to be built up with Christian temples. Here appeared the first stone building in Russia - the Tithe Church.
