Description:
Vladimir Cathedral in Kiev is dedicated to the Kiev Prince Vladimir, who introduced Christianity in Russia. The construction of the cathedral took 20 years and was completed in 1882 (the temple was consecrated in 1896). The temple was built entirely by donations.
The main feature of the temple is mosaics and paintings, among which there are not only gospel stories, but also historical paintings and portraits. Such famous artists as Mikhail Vrubel and Viktor Vasnetsov put a hand to the interior of the temple. The central figure is the so-called “Vasnetsov Mother of God”. She meets the parishioners and looks directly into the soul.
The temple is made in the Old Byzantine style and conveys the grandeur of ancient times and exploits.
