Richard's Castle Lionheart
Andreevsky descent, 15, Kiev, Ukraine
Description:
The castle of Richard the Lionheart is located on St. Andrew’s Descent, in Kiev. It was created in the style of British Gothic in the XIX century by order of the Kiev industrialist Dmitry Orlov. The name of the castle is dedicated to the hero of Walter Scott’s novel Ivanhoe.
The facades of the castle are decorated with architectural elements characteristic of fortifications, namely: towers, spires, powerful walls and so on.
Initially, the castle was built by Orlov for renting apartments, but after his death, and the advent of Soviet power, communal apartments were located here, in which many famous Kiev artists lived.
