Museum of Hetmanship – “House of Mazepa”

04070 Ukraine, Kiev, Spasskaya Street, 16B

About the company:

In March 1993, a museum was organized in the monument house, the purpose of which is to highlight the life and work of famous representatives of the Hetmanate, as well as the features of the government of that time.

The two-storey building was built at the end of the XVII century during the reign of Ivan Mazepa. The building is called the “house of Mazepa”, although the hetman never lived in this house. During the construction, all architectural styles of the time were observed.

At the beginning of the XVIII century, a family of Sychevsky burghers settled in the building, whose members served in the city magistrate. During its existence, the house has changed many owners. He was the only one who survived the fire of 1811. After the formation of the Soviet Union, the local government made communal apartments in it.

In the early 90s, the government of Ukraine issued an order to organize a museum in the building, which should reflect the difficult fate of Ukrainian hetmans. At numerous expositions, more than 6 thousand exhibits are presented to the attention of visitors. At the exhibitions you can see Cossack weapons, household items, portraits of hetmans and much more.
