The Cossack Monument
Description:
The monument to the founder of the city was opened on May 28, 2011. The sculpture symbolizes the Cossack Rog, who descended from his horse and holds him under the bridles. The monument is erected on a colossal monolith of iron ore, weighing 62 tons. The sculpture weighs three tons. It was designed by Ukrainian sculptor Alexander Vasyakin and cast in a private workshop.
It is worth noting that the plaster model of the monument was ready in 1991 by order of the then mayor Grigory Gutovsky, but the monument did not have time to install due to the change of mayor. As a result, the monument was forgotten for almost twenty years. At the exhibition in honor of the anniversary of Alexander Vasyakin, the current head of the city Yuri Vilkul became interested in the project, he ordered to put a sculpture to the founder of Krivyi Rih.
