Chinese palace
Ukraine, Lviv region, Zolochev, str. Castle, 3
Description:
The Chinese Palace is part of the architectural ensemble of the Zolochivsky Castle, a remarkable architectural monument, one of the few preserved Eastern pavilions in Europe.
At the end of the XVII century in Europe there is a fashion for Chinese culture, which gave rise to an original style in art, called "shinoiseri". European nobility is fond of Chinese porcelain and painting, the custom of tea drinking spreads. In parks and gardens, tea houses or oriental pavilions are erected.
Such a pavilion was also the Chinese (or Pink) Palace, built by the Polish king Jan III Sobieski for his wife – the Frenchwoman Maria Casimir de Langrange d’Arcjen. This elegant one-story building with a small round tower and roofs, elusively reminiscent of Chinese pagodas, is undoubtedly the main decoration of the castle complex.
Since 1983, the Chinese Castle has housed the exhibitions of the eastern collection of the Lviv National Gallery, among the exhibits of the museum are many objects of culture and art of China, Japan, India and other countries of the East.
