Church and Carmelite monastery

ooh Vladimir Vinnichenko, 30, Lviv, Lviv region, Ukraine

Description:

This church and monastery, built on Vinnychenko Street, at different times was called differently: Seminar, Archbishop, and the Church of Sretenia, etc. The monastery was founded by Jakub Sobieski.

The church was built in the XVII century following the example of the Roman church of Santa Susanna, made by the architect Carlo Maderna. The project of the Lviv church was carried out by Jan Baptist Dzhizleni. In its form, the church represents the Latin cross. At the intersection of the transept and nave, a dome with a signature is installed. The facade of the building is decorated with white stone, which emphasizes its lush Baroque forms. In the niches of the two tiers are placed decorative vases and sculptural figures of Schwaner. On the plate, embedded above the entrance portal, the coats of arms of the Polish royal families are placed.

The church belonged to the order of Carmelites until the end of the XVIII century.
