Lviv Town Hall
Ukraine, Lviv region, Lviv, Market Square, 1
Description:
On the central square of Lviv there is a building without which it is difficult to imagine a city leading its history from the Middle Ages - the City Hall.
The first town hall building appeared on the Market in 1381. At that time, demonstration executions were often carried out in front of the Town Hall. It is said that the ghost of one of the executioners can still be occasionally found in the city square.
Lviv Town Hall has been rebuilt many times. The building of the current Town Hall, already the fourth in a row, was built in 1835. Brick four-storey building, designed in the style of Viennese classicism, complements the clock tower.
At the entrance to the town hall, two huge stone lions hold shields with the coat of arms of the city. These lions have nicknames. One of them is respectfully called the mayor, the other – the mayor.
While visiting the town hall, do not forget to climb its tower. From the height of the observation deck there is a delightful view of Lviv. Here you can also see the watch movement of 1852, produced in Vienna at the factory of Style.
