Plaza de la Mytnaya
mytna Square, Lviv, Lviv region, Ukraine
Description:
Glinyansky Gate is one of the monuments of defense architecture in Lviv, which is among them the oldest and well-preserved. They were built in the early 17th century by engineer F. Getkant. This structure, built of stone and brick, creates a closed courtyard, which resembles a triangle in shape. In the upper part you can see loopholes, and in front of the wall there is an ancient moat.
Some tourists come to Mytnaya Square specifically to see with their own eyes the monasteries of the Clarices and Bernardines. Many of them believe that under the ancient stones of the pavement there is an underground passage, which was dug by monks and nuns to meet each other. Of course, there is no evidence of this, but the rumors come from somewhere.
Any guide will tell you that these monasteries are 400 years old. However, now the monastery is used as a room for the works of sculptor John Georg Pinzel, who was called Ukrainian Michelangelo.
Recently, the grand opening of the flower clock took place on Mytnaya Square, which disappeared from the square half a century ago. There was a time when they decorated the square, but were dismantled during its redevelopment. The author of the old-new watch is Alexey Burnaev, Lviv master watchmaker.
The clock was installed next to the underground passage, so all passing or going to work people will be able not only to compare the time on them, but also to admire the multicolored chrysanthemum.
