Podgorets castle
Description:
Podgorets Castle is one of the most beautiful castles of Western Ukraine, comparable to the best examples of Baroque and Renaissance palace architecture. Built in 1635, the castle delighted contemporaries with the luxury of interior decoration, a rich collection of weapons and art. A unique park of Italian style was laid out around the castle.
Many Russians Podgorets Castle is well known from the film “D’Artagnan and the Three Musketeers”, in which he “performed” the role of the Louvre. On the stairs and gallery of the castle, D’Artagnan fought the Cardinal’s guards, returning stolen pendants to the Queen.
As in any self-respecting castle, in Podgoretsky there is a ghost. According to legend, one of the former owners of the castle - Vaclav Zhevutsky, jealous of his wife, walled her up alive in the walls. Sometimes at night, museum staff hear the noise of footsteps, and in the windows of the castle you can see the light of a burning candle.
Although today the castle needs serious restoration work, it has not lost its external splendor and deservedly enters the Golden Horseshoe of castles of Ukraine.
