Shevchenko Avenue
Shevchenko Avenue, Lviv, Lviv region, Ukraine
Description:
In written sources, this street first appears in 1569, when it looked like this:
instead of the avenue - a swamped riverbed Poltva, a stone bridge thrown over it, and a small pond.
Over time, everything changed: the river was blocked by concrete vaults, an alley of poplars was planted and the street was quickly built up. It is on this street there are a number of hotels that no longer exist. For example, on the site of the house No. 2 was the hotel "Russian", in which Honore de Balzac once lived.
In general, modern buildings for the most part perform the same functions as their ancestors. So, in the house number 8 is the cinema "Kiev", one of the oldest in the city. But the first Frank cinema opened here in 1912. On the first floor of the house No. 10 today there is a confectionery store "Svitoch", formerly Zukerniy L. Zalevsky.
