Town Hall

Description:

d. Sambor

Town Hall

The first wooden town hall was built in Sambor in 1390, after the city received the Magdeburg law. The stone building on the current site was built in 1580, but half a century later it burned down in a fire. Only the basement rooms that served as the basis for the construction of the current town hall have been preserved. The construction of a two-storey Renaissance building with a high 40-meter clock tower was completed in 1670. In 1844, a major reconstruction was carried out. The tower clock of the Prague master Heinz was installed on the tower in 1885 on the site of the broken old clock. The Sambor City Hall still serves its intended purpose - it houses state authorities: the City Hall and the City Council of People's Deputies.
