Fredra Street
ooh Alexandra Fredra, Lviv, Lviv region, Ukraine
Description:
This street appeared in the 1st quarter of the XIX century and at first was called St. Petersburg Street. Mikolaia, because it was possible to go to the church of the same name. But towards the end of the XIX century it was renamed A. Fredra Street, in memory of the author of comedies about the customs of life of the provincial nobility. The choice fell on this street, because on the left side of it he owned part of the land.
His main literary merit was that he enriched the genre of comedy with a new social and everyday content, brought closer to the colloquial stage language.
Fredro’s comedies are now included in the golden fund of Polish literature, as they played a prominent role in the development of Polish realist theater. His plays have received worldwide recognition - they are staged in many theaters around the world.
