Monument to the founders of Odessa
Description:
According to legend, the history of Odessa began in 1794 with the words of Catherine the Second - "We command to be a port and a city." In 2007, a comprehensive reconstruction of Catherine Square and the monument to the founders of Odessa was carried out: Catherine the Second, Grigory Potemkin-Tavrichsky, Platon Zubov, Joseph de Ribas and Franz de Volan.
The column and figure of the Empress was cast anew, and the sculptures of her four main companions were returned to their historical place after a long storage in the local history museum. Prince Gregory Potemkin was the commander-in-chief of the army, and Count Platon Zubov was the chief commander of the region. Joseph de Ribas was the author and first executor of the Odessa project, as well as the chief of the city and port under construction.
