Monument to Ostap Bender
Havana Street, 10, Odessa, Ukraine
Description:
In the wonderful city garden of Odessa, near the monument to Kisa Vorobyaninov, there was a monument to another famous hero of the novel "Twelve chairs" - Ostap Bender. The figure was performed by the famous artist Sergey Tolkeev. Bender closely monitors the revenue that Sparrow collects at the entrance to one of the most popular restaurants in the city “U Pecheskago”.
Both sculptures were made at the expense of local entrepreneurs, they look bronze, but in fact - made of plaster. Therefore, in case of inclement weather and in the evening, in order to protect the sculptures from acts of vandalism, restaurant workers bring them under the roof of the institution. Tourists often approach their favorite heroes to take pictures with them, shake hands with Bender and throw a coin to Vorobyaninov, believing that this “rite” will help them return to Odessa.
About 150 meters from the monuments to Vorobyaninov and Bender, on Deribasovskaya Street, there is another attraction - the twelfth chair they are looking for, to which you can go through the Gorsad. The administration of the restaurant promises that soon there will also appear the figure of another character of the famous novel - Panikovsky.
