Ekaterininskaya Street, 55A, Odessa, 65000
Description:
Among the most beautiful churches in Odessa, it is worth to include the Holy Trinity Church. The first church building was wooden, but since 1804 the construction of a stone temple begins.
The cathedral was built according to the plan of the architect F. Frapoli and was made in the then popular Byzantine style. The new stone church was decorated with one dome and a bell tower with a spire. The building has a cross-shaped shape, since in 1838 two chapels were added to the temple. The first of them is consecrated in honor of the Intercession of the Most Holy Mother of God, and the second is the icon of the Mother of God “Unexpected Joy”.
During its existence, the cathedral was practically destroyed, with great damage it “survived” the Great Patriotic War and the “Bolshevik races”. At one time, the church was used as a gym.
In one of the corners of the temple, a marble tombstone was installed, where the relics of the Ecumenical Patriarch Gregory V were previously located, a marble tablet was installed.
Today, Holy Trinity Church is one of the architectural monuments of Odessa. Here you can meet as ordinary tourists, so obedient parishioners.
