Odessa railway station
Description:
Odessa railway station was built in the 80s of XIX in the project of V.A. Schroeter.
The current railway station was built in 1952 according to the project of A.M. Chuprin on the site of Odessa destroyed during the fascist occupation in 1944. The building reproduces the architecture of the old station.
The architectural style of the Odessa railway station is a combination of classicism and realism, a mixture of styles characteristic of buildings built at that time. Elements and details of the architectural composition of the building depict the Soviet proletariat, perpetuate the history of the USSR and the ideology of Soviet power.
The interior of the station building is a classic example of the Soviet Empire. The hall includes two floors topped by a majestic dome and a huge chandelier.
The station is equipped in accordance with modern technologies, so in October 2012, barcode scanners were installed in the building, which allows much faster service for passengers purchasing tickets via the Internet.
