House-Museum of I. P. Kotlyarevsky

Ukraine, Poltava, Sobornnaya Square, 3

About the company:

Not far from the majestic Assumption Cathedral is the estate house of Ivan Petrovich Kotlyarevsky, a classic of new Ukrainian literature. In this building he lived almost all his life, it was from here that he left for military service and for his favorite job as the director of the local theater.

In 1952, the literary and memorial museum of the writer was opened, and the restored estate became its branch. Restoration work was carried out on the drawings of Taras Shevchenko, as well as on archival documents.

Visitors can see 5 small rooms: a living room, a lamp, a writer’s office, a kitchen and a housekeeper’s room. In the interior, details from the old house are used, in particular, ceiling scum with inscriptions, part of the hay. Every detail of the interior reveals the multifaceted personality of Ivan Petrovich Kotlyarevsky. So, in his office there is a sofa, a roomy closet with books in Russian and Latin and a writing table.

The estate house complex includes not only the house itself, but also a barn, a well. In a cozy yard, in 1971, a bust to the writer was installed, and not far there is an obelisk with a special inscription.
