Reserve-Museum of N.V. Gogol

Ukraine, Gogolevo village, str. October, 2

About the company:

In the beautiful village of Gogolevo, where the master of words Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol spent his childhood and youth, there is a national museum-reserve of the same name. It was opened in 1984 in honor of the 175th anniversary of the beloved writer.

Once a rich estate, burned down during the Second World War, was restored according to archival plans, memoirs, letters of contemporaries, as well as memoirs of the writer himself. Today, visitors can see the reconstructed interiors of the bedrooms, dining room, living room and office. See the parental house, wing and walk through a small park with a picturesque pond, arbor and a grotto. It is believed that if you sit on a stone near the grotto and make a wish, it will come true. Near the estate at the end of the alley are the graves of Gogol’s parents.

The memorial and literary expositions presented in 10 halls tell about the childhood and youth of Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol, about his literary activity. The museum has more than 7000 exhibits, including personal belongings of the writer: Russian-French dictionary, manuscripts, white vest, photocopies of his letters.

Another attraction is the growing birch trees, affectionately called father and mother, and nearby - growing from one root five birch trunks. Thus, nature symbolically tells about the family of Nikolai Vasilyevich: of the 12 children born, only 4 girls survived and one boy – the future author of Dead Souls.
