Koretsk monastery

Koretz, Rivne region, Ukraine

Description:

Holy Resurrection Trinity Koretsk Stavropegial convent is located in Korts, Ukraine. It was founded by Varlaam, abbot of the Kiev-Pechersk monastery, in 1064. It withstood many Tatar attacks and was destroyed twice. In 1571, Prince Euphemia of Koretsk began the restoration of the monastery, completed in 1579 by his son Joachim. In 1620, due to the increasing number of nuns, the construction of a new monastery in the center of Korts was begun, where it is still located.

The new monastery was given to Franciscan nuns who were expelled from it in the XIX century. The monastery is becoming Orthodox again. At the beginning of the XX century, a gate bell tower and a warm church were erected in honor of the Nativity of John the Forerunner. In Soviet times, the monastery remained the only functioning convent in Ukraine.

In the monastery are kept shrines of the Koretsky family - the icon of the Mother of God "The Compassion of Sinners" and the miraculous shroud of the Assumption of the Virgin. On the territory of the monastery is buried Anna Andro de Longeron, in the virginity of Olenin. She is dedicated to the poems of Alexander Pushkin “I loved you...” and “Her eyes.”

The monastery is currently flourishing. It's home to 90 nuns. Nuns are engaged in various types of needlework, on the territory of the monastery there are an apiary, bakery, vegetable garden, workshops.
