Description:
The Sunday Church stands in the center of the city. This is the oldest local stone building built in 1702. The temple was built on the money of local colonels Gerasim and Andrei Kondratiev and in addition to the spiritual monastery was a defensive structure. The church stands on a hill near the Sumka River and has historically been of strategic importance.
In 1709, Peter I visited here and participated in the New Year ceremony, hosted a military parade.
The temple became a tomb for the Kondratyevs.
The church has its own legend, according to which the leader of local robbers, atamansha Maria Kondratieva, is allegedly walled up in the walls of the building.
