Description:
The most significant and beautiful building of the monastery complex is the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin. A. Gornostaev worked on the project of the cathedral. It was built in the style of Russian-Byzantine architecture, and the main decoration was five chapters covered with gold leaf.
The cathedral was built for nine years (from 1859 to 1868) under the leadership of Y. S. Eremin. The painting became a decor for the iconostasis, it was performed by the artist A. P. Rozanov.
In connection with the closure of the monastery, in 1922 the temple was adapted to the House of Culture. This function was performed by the Council until 1992. During this period, during 1980-1986, work was carried out to restore the temple. The facade was restored, the domes with gilding were restored, the painting in the dome part was updated. After the resumption of the Svyatogorsk monastery, the cathedral was transferred to its disposal. During this period, the interior was restored.
On October 8, 2000, after the restoration of the Assumption Cathedral was completed, the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church His Beatitude Metropolitan Vladimir of Kiev consecrated the church together with five bishops.
Currently, the cathedral is decorated with a carved five-tier iconostasis, on which icons are painted in gold, as well as 12 gilded panicadils.
