Description:

The Jesuit Monastery (Collegium) is a whole complex of buildings that are the architectural dominant of the city of Kremenets. In the XVIII century, the complex became an educational institution - a major center of education in the Volyn and Podol lands.

The construction of the monastery lasted from 1731 to 1743, its design was designed by the architect Gizhitsky. The complex consists of educational buildings and a church. All buildings are made in the late Baroque style.

In 1805, the Higher Volyn Gymnasium was opened here, thanks to which the city became one of the main centers of education in Ukraine. The gymnasium had the best equipment and library with 50,000 volumes. Over time, the gymnasium was closed and today, the Humanitarian and Pedagogical Institute named after Taras Shevchenko is located in the monastery.

The architecture of the church cannot but impress. It is three-nave, has a transept and two towers on the facade. The system of cross and semicircular vaults supports 6 pylons. 4 pylons carry a dome on a round drum. The lateral naves are divided into chapels. In the interior there are arches, pilasters, entablatures. The facades of all buildings are broken into “mirrors”, on the windows there are casings with castle stones.
