Nicholas Cathedral
d. Kremenets, T. Shevchenko str., 57
Description:
The Church of St. Nicholas was founded in 1606 for a Franciscan monastery. Only in 1832 it became the Nicholas Cathedral. In those days, a printing house and a fraternal school were opened in the monastery, the “Kremenets Grammar” was printed here.
This is an Orthodox church, which was originally made in the Gothic Renaissance style. After reconstruction, the temple was given a Baroque style. Now the structure has become three-nave, with polygonal altar volume. Its porch is rectangular in plan and the chapel has a dome. The central nave is covered with cross vaults, and the lateral ones with semicircular vaults with formworks.
The middle nave is an independent volume in the interior and has one exit through the longitudinal walls into the side naves, which are decorated with portals in the late Baroque style.
There is no architectural decoration in Nikolaev Cathedral. Inside there is a gift-guard donated by Emperor Alexander III Alexandrovich himself.
