Nevice Castle
Kamenitsa village, Transcarpathian region
Description:
In Transcarpathia, when leaving the valley of the river Uzh, on a rocky ledge, at an altitude of 260 meters above sea level, the ruins of the ancient Nevitsky Castle, or, as they say in the people, the Castle of Pogana Virgo, are adorned. There's a cool serpentine leading to him.
An ancient legend says that the castle was built by Pogana Virgo. So the people called the ruler, famous for his cruelty. No one succeeded in driving the evil ruler out of these places. Only King Matyash could force her to flee. Trying to escape, the Freaky Virgin ran into the forest, where she became entangled with her long hair among the trunks of trees. This is where the king found her, who ordered the execution of the villain.
The stone walls of the castle were built in the XIII century on the site of the previous wooden fortification. In 1241, Mongol Tatar hordes destroyed the castle, but after a while it was restored. At the turn of the XIII-XIV centuries, a quadrangular three-tiered donjon tower (main tower) was built. With the development of firearms, the castle was improved, constantly rebuilt and acquired its final shape at the beginning of the XVI century. At the beginning of the XVII century, when the castle was owned by the noble family of Friends, it constantly changed hands. At that time, internecine wars raged in the country. And in 1644 the castle was captured and destroyed by the voivode György Rakoczi of Transylvania. The large castle was not restored, and the ruins that have survived since have survived to our days. Now the monument is preserved.
