Cathedral Street

cathedral street, Vinnytsia, Vinnytsia region, Ukraine

Description:

The main, and accordingly, the most beautiful street of Vinnitsa is called Cathedral. It must be said that since its appearance, it has changed its name five times, having visited Pochtova, Nikolaevsky and Ukrainian Prospekts, and twice Lenin Street. In fact, the name “Cathedral” is historically correct, because once, on the right-bank part of the city, where this street is located, there was only a Catholic temple complex “Yuridika”.

Cathedral street crosses the city center from the South Bug River to Gagarin Square. It accommodated several buildings of particular importance for the city, religious significance, each of which is a city landmark - this is the Church of the Holy Virgin Mary of Angels and Holy Transfiguration Cathedral, Mura and the Jesuit Monastery, in whose building the state regional archive is now located. The length of the Cathedral street is 1.6 km, part of it remained covered with paving stones, the rest is a modern asphalt pavement.
