Water tower
Ukraine, Vinnytsia region, Vinnytsia city, Kozitsky str., 20
Description:
The water tower in the city of Vinnitsa, built in the early XX century, is the hallmark of this Ukrainian city. In an effort to keep pace with progress, in 1912 the city authorities of Vinnytsia decided to build a water pipeline. And for these purposes, according to the project of architect Grigory Grigoryevich Artynov, a city water tower is being built. By today's standards, the plumbing that served the tower was very small - 1.3 kilometers, but for that time it was a big step.
The tower suffered a revolution and two world wars, unscathed. During the Great Patriotic War, the tower was used as an observation point. After the war, the tower ceased to be used for its intended purpose, and apartments were made there for water workers.
In 1985, the water tower was handed over to the Regional Museum of Local Lore, so from this year the tower housed exhibits of the Museum of Military and Revolutionary Glory. Since 1993, a memorial has been created here to commemorate the soldiers-internationalists who died in Afghanistan.
The height of the tower is 28 meters, the main city clock with a two-meter dial is located on the tower.
