Cathedral of St. Sophia
About the company:
In the XI-XVIII centuries on top of the Castle Hill was a wooden castle, later rebuilt in stone. Until now, only the remains of the ramparts of the stone castle have survived. It was on this place that the Cathedral of St. Sofia, built on the initiative of Bishop S. Ozhiga in 1743-1746.
In the XIX century during the reconstruction of the church were used techniques of classicism. The architectural style of the building refers to the late Renaissance with Baroque elements. It is now an active temple. Nearby rises the bell tower, dating from 1863 and reaching a height of 26 meters. In the church there is a memorial plaque in memory of the Polish pianist and composer Juliusz Zarembski.
