Gaucho Museum

Julio Herrera y Obes, Montevideo 11100, Uruguay

About the company:

Uruguay is famous for its Gaucho Museum, or the Uruguayan Cowboy Museum, which appeared in the country almost simultaneously with the American Cowboys. The museum offers visitors a large collection of art, tools and gaucho weapons.

Gauchos are people who lead a nomadic lifestyle, raise cattle and tame wild horses. In the museum you can understand what the true gauchos were and what their character was. They are free people, a little wild, but very friendly and hospitable. They have nothing but a horse, a saddle, a poncho and a knife, which testified to their freedom and independence.

Also in the museum you can see various ponchos, which served as gaucho not only as warm clothes, but also as blankets and even shields.
