Carnival Museum
Ciudad Vieja, Montevideo, Uruguay
About the company:
Carnivals are held not only in Rio de Janeiro, but also in Uruguay. The visitor will learn more about this in a special museum dedicated to the carnival. This museum is the first carnival museum in Latin America.
The museum contains paintings, photographs, musical instruments, costumes and other items related to the past and present of the Uruguayan Carnival, which begins in late January and lasts 45 days throughout the country.
Carnival costumes Uruguayans are very different from Brazilian. All of them are made using national ornaments. All Uruguayan processions are accompanied by Indian folklore, which is an obligatory attribute. Common genres of songs and dances in Uruguay are considered three hundred, estilo, milonga, pericon, Montonero and Cielito.
