St. Andrew's Day (St. Andrew's Day)
Description:
In the ninth century, the Vikings landed on the east coast of Scotland with the intention of capturing and plundering the country. The Scotts gathered all their fighting forces and took over the Tay River. They arrived by evening and camped, rested, believing that the enemy would not advance until the next day. However, the Vikings were nearby.
Unable to find guards and sentries around the Scots camp, the Vikings crossed Tay with the intention of suddenly capturing the Scots and slaughtering them in their sleep. To this end, they took off their shoes in order to make as little noise as possible when moving to the camp. But suddenly one of the Vikings stepped on thistle. In sudden and sharp pain he cried out. Hearing the cry, the Scots raised the alarm in the camp. The Vikings were forced to retreat, and the thistle, in gratitude for the timely and unexpected help, was chosen by the Scots as their national emblem.
