New Year
Description:
On Christmas Eve, the main Christmas tree of the country is installed in the central Trafalgar Square of London. In 1841, Queen Victoria issued a decree authorizing the establishment of the main Christmas tree. In recent decades, the Christmas tree has been delivered from Norway to thank the Norwegians for helping the British liberate Norway from Nazi invaders during World War II.
The British celebrate the New Year in accordance with local, national traditions and personal preferences. Young people mainly celebrate the New Year at New Year's parties, which begin around 8 p.m. and continue until the morning. Dance New Year's Eves are also popular. Fans of celebrating the New Year on the street with a large crowd gather in Piccadilly Square or Trafalgar.
On New Year’s Eve, people give each other cards and gifts, but unlike Christmas, this tradition is not so widespread. As well as all over the world, on New Year’s Eve, many people make important decisions for themselves: in the New Year, stop drinking, smoke, live as you want, not as you get. But, unfortunately, not everyone realizes their dreams.
The most famous New Year’s tradition in Britain is the tradition of the first guest. If after the clock strikes 12 and announces the beginning of the New Year, the first guest in the house will be a young man with dark hair - the year will be successful. In England, a guest brings bread, a corner, a pinch of salt, as symbols of food, warmth, prosperity. Usually, the first guest, entering the house, silently goes to the fireplace-heart of the house and throws a corner there, and only then greetings and wishes are heard. The first guest must be treated.
The British honor family traditions, so many of them celebrate the New Year with their families at a festive table. As in England, turkey is served on Christmas, so in Scotland on New Year's Eve prepare haggis - the culinary emblem of this country. The toast is "Your good health!" - To your health!
Happy New Year - Happy New Year!
